School Catering Assistant Key Responsibilities 

• Aid the Head Chef in the production of wholesome, fresh meals, handling everything from vegetable prep to assembling nutritious grab-and-go snacks. 

• Provide excellent front-of-house service at the counter, ensuring students are served quickly and with a friendly smile during the peak lunch rush. 

• Uphold rigorous hygiene standards by managing the pot wash, sanitizing food preparation stations, and ensuring the dining area remains clutter-free. 

• Work diligently to prevent cross-contamination and ensure every meal served aligns with the school’s strict allergen and special dietary policies. 

• Assist with the organized storage of deliveries and monitor pantry levels to ensure the kitchen remains fully equipped for daily service. 

School Catering Assistant Job Requirements 

• Prior experience in a high-pressure catering environment - such as a school, hospital, or community canteen - is highly valued. 

• A patient and positive demeanour, with the ability to communicate effectively with students of all ages and educational staff. 

• A fundamental grasp of food safety regulations; possession of a current Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is a major plus. 

• A valid Enhanced DBS certificate is required. We are happy to help you navigate the application process if you aren't currently on the Update Service.
