School Catering Assistant Key Responsibilities 

• Assist the kitchen team in preparing fresh, healthy ingredients for school meals, ensuring snacks and lunches meet high presentation standards. 

• Serve students and faculty members with a friendly and professional attitude, managing portion control and speeding up service during peak lunchtime rushes. 

• Maintain a hygienic working environment by washing kitchenware, deep-cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the dining hall is tidy and safe for students. 

• Adhere strictly to school-specific food safety protocols regarding allergies and dietary restrictions to protect student health. 

• Safely operate industrial kitchen machinery and report any maintenance issues in accordance with health and safety regulations. 

School Catering Assistant Job Requirements 

• Previous experience in a school kitchen, canteen, or high-volume food service environment is highly preferred. 

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, teenagers, and school staff. 

• A basic understanding of food hygiene practices; holding a Level 2 Food Safety certificate is a distinct advantage. 

• An Enhanced DBS check is essential. We can assist you with a new application if you do not currently have one. 

• The ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude within a fast-paced team.
